When you first install WoW on this retina iMac, it defaults to the Window Size 5120x2880 and puts the Resolution Scale to 2560x1440 at 50. The Graphics Quality slider defaults to 5. With this setting, the image looks sharp and UI elements and text are in 5K. It runs acceptable at a steady 60 FPS, especially in BFA zones. The Retina-equipped 21.5in iMac, along with any of the 27in iMacs, can handle gaming very well - it's just a shame that Apple expects you to pay upwards of 1,249/$1,299 for the privilege. Jul 25, 2016 iMac 5K 2015, with Radeon R9 M395X Graphic Card, 32GB memory, Running Boot Camp Windows 10, playing World of Warcraft under a few different graphics settings. My suggested setting for iMac 5K is. 5K iMac (Late 2014) 4 Ghz Intel Core i7 processor. 32 GB DDR 3 RAM. AMD Radeon R9 M295x with 4 GB of video ram. Adjust your graphics settings for WOW at 5K. Heres how you can adjust your graphics settings in World of Warcraft to play at 5K. Click the Game Menu icon. Click on System. Click on Resolution and make sure its set to 5K.

X-Plane 11 at 1280x720 - Using Terminal commands, we 'relived' a 2 minute flight of the SR-71 taking off low over pine trees and making a slow turn though broken clouds before doing a barrel roll. Settings were high quality with anti-aliasing (fps_test=3) using CIRCLE view.

WHAT DID WE LEARN?
If you are running X-Plane at low resolution (1280x720), the 2017 iMac 5K will give you the best performance in FPS.
If you are running at or near 2560x1440, the 2017 iMac 5K will give you the best performance in FPS.
One reader indicated either 3K was a favorite resolution among X-Plane 'pilots' so we included 3200x1800 since the iMac 5K 'likes' that. The Mac Pros were able to run at 3840x2160 when connected to the Dell UP2715K 5K display or LG UltraFine 5K display.
However, if you are running at very high resolutions (5120x2880), the 2017 iMac 5K will only keep up with the Mac Pros if you add an eGPU with a high-end GPU like the NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti.

Your Mac automatically chooses a default resolution that is optimal for your display. To change the resolution:
Choose Apple menu System Preferences.
Click Displays.
Select Scaled, then select any of the four or five scaled resolutions, depending on your Mac model. With scaled resolutions, text and objects can appear larger and more visible, or smaller to provide more space for windows and apps. Best Settings For Wow On Imac 5k Schedule
If you're also using an external display
If you're using an external display to extend your desktop, you can choose a preferred resolution for each display. To see additional resolutions for the external display, press and hold the Option key while selecting the Scaled button.
If you're using an external display to mirror your built-in display, your Mac optimizes for whichever display is selected in the Optimize for pop-up menu. Allow your Mac to choose the best resolution for that display, or select Scaled and choose a different resolution.

If an app looks different than you expect on your Retina display or high-resolution external display, try opening the app in low-resolution mode:
Quit the app.
Open the Applications folder.
Click the app once to select it, then choose Get Info from the File menu.
From the Get Info window that opens, select the checkbox labeled Open in Low Resolution.
Close the Get Info window and open the app again.
Some apps that work best in low-resolution mode or that work only in low-resolution mode will have this mode already turned on, and in that case you might not be able to turn it off. Boot Camp supports resolutions up to 3840 x 2160.
When your Mac is using the Apple-supplied Windows Support Software, Windows starts up with the maximum dpi (pixels) it supports, which is 144 dpi, or 150-percent magnification. As a result, items on the display appear small, with a lot of space. You can use the Windows Display control panel item to adjust this setting in Windows.
